What is the NF T 72-281 standard and what are the germs tested ?

It is a French standard determining bactericidal, fungicidal and sporicidal activities for  airborne disinfection of surfaces. The test is performed in a laboratory, which must be accredited by the COFRAC association.

It consists in positioning the machine (the diffuser) in the middle of a sealed room and then put strains behind the machine in different locations to ensure that the disinfectant powered achieves all surfaces in contact with the air of the room. No specific flow is required by the standard, IBL Specifik has obtained results above the standard requirements at a rate of about 8ml/m3. At the end of time diffusion, for the pair AIRBIO / APABIO, it requires a contact time of 2 hours in order to obtain similar results to those obtained during the passage of the standard.

The tested microorganisms are :

  • Bactericidal activity : Pseudomonas aeruginosa (CIP 103-467), Staphylococcus aureus (CIP 4.83), Enterococcus hirae (CIP 5855), Escherichia coli (CIP 54127)
  • Sporicidal activity : Bacillus subtilis spores (CIP 52 62)
  • Fungicidal activity : Candida albicans (IP 4872), Aspergillus niger (IP 1431-83)
  • Yeasticidal activity : Candida albicans (IP4872).
