The difference between disinfection, decontamination and sterilization

What is the difference between disinfection, decontamination and sterilization?

The terms "Disinfection", "Decontamination" and "Sterilisation" refer to the results of different operations: Depending on the objective, the following terms are used Cleaning Machines and/or Disinfection Machines  using disinfection products to perform these important operations such as STEAMBIO or JETBIO.                            Buy JETBIO2020 online

Decontamination Microorganism removal: An operation designed to eliminate or reduce the number of microorganisms, (VIDOC19 is one of them) on living tissue and inert objects.

At rates considered to be safe, so as to comply with hygiene and public health standards.

Pre-disinfection (legally adequate term) commonly known as DECOMTAMINATION:

An operation with instant results that eliminates, kills or inhibits undesirable micro-organisms, depending on the objectives set. Pre-disinfection or (Decontamination) is the first treatment to be performed on soiled equipment, surfaces and objects. The purpose of pre-disinfection is to reduce the population of micro-organisms and to facilitate subsequent final cleaning and disinfection.

Example of simple understanding: Putting hydroalcoholic gel on dirty hands is equal to decontamination.

The term "decontamination" is improperly used in France and must be reserved for operations aimed at reducing a risk of radioactive or chemical contamination, which is why we speak of pre-disinfection.

Disinfection: Operation with Instantaneous and Remaining result allowing to eliminate or kill micro-organisms and/or to inactivate undesirable viruses (ex: COVID19) carried by contaminated inert media.

The Disinfection operation consists of 2 mandatory steps.

The first operation is to wash and scrub the surfaces with a simple detergent (not a disinfectant detergent) to remove and break up the Biofilms.

What is BIOFILM and how to remove it

The second operation is to Nebulize or Fog with an airborne disinfection device such as the ( JETBIO 2020) a fine mist of disinfectant product that will be deposited on all surfaces in contact with the air. The product thus dispersed will act and destroy all the microorganisms present on the surfaces or objects that you have previously washed.

Example of simple understanding: Putting hydroalcoholic gel on hands previously washed with soap is equal to disinfection.

We recommend our ecological disinfectant 100% BIO, approved and standardized: APABIO

Sterilization: Sterilization is an operation to eliminate or kill microorganisms carried by contaminated inert media.

the result of this operation, not limited to the duration of the application, being the state of sterility that is the destruction and total elimination of all microorganisms.

This operation is often carried out using heat in ovens.
