The difference between disinfection, decontamination and sterilisation

What is the difference between disinfection, decontamination and sterilisation?

The terms "Disinfection", "Decontamination" and "Sterilisation" refer to the results of different operations: Depending on the objective, we will therefore use Cleaning Machines and/or Disinfection Machines  using disinfection products to carry out important operations such as STEAMBIO or JETBIO.                            Buy JETBIO2020 online

Decontamination Operation designed to eliminate or reduce the number of micro-organisms (COVID19 is one such operation) on living tissue and inert objects.

At levels considered safe, so as to comply with hygiene and public health standards.

Pre-disinfection (legally appropriate term) commonly known as DECOMTAMINATION:

An operation with instant results that eliminates, kills or inhibits undesirable micro-organisms, depending on the objectives set. Pre-disinfection or (Decontamination) is the first treatment to be carried out on soiled equipment, surfaces and objects. The aim of pre-disinfection is to reduce the micro-organism population and facilitate subsequent final cleaning and disinfection.

A simple example: applying hydro-alcoholic gel to dirty hands is equivalent to decontamination.

The term "decontamination" is misused in France and should be reserved for operations designed to reduce the risk of radioactive or chemical contamination, which is why we use the term "pre-disinfection".

Disinfection: Operation with instant and permanent results that eliminates or kills micro-organisms and/or inactivates undesirable viruses (e.g. COVID19) carried by contaminated inert media.

Disinfection involves 2 compulsory stages.

The first operation consists of washing and scrubbing the surfaces with a simple detergent (and not with a disinfectant detergent) in order to eliminate and break up the Biofilms.

What is BIOFILM and how to remove it

The second operation consists of Nebulising or Fogging with an aerial disinfection device such as the ( JETBIO 2020) a fine mist of disinfectant which is deposited on all surfaces in contact with the air. The product dispersed in this way will act to destroy all the micro-organisms present on the surfaces or objects you have previously washed.

A simple example: applying hydro-alcoholic gel to hands that have been previously washed with soap is equivalent to disinfection.

To achieve this, we recommend our approved and standardised organic disinfectant 100%: APABIO

Sterilisation: Sterilisation is an operation used to eliminate or kill micro-organisms carried by contaminated inert media.

the result of this operation, which is not limited to the duration of the application, is sterility, i.e. the destruction and total elimination of all micro-organisms.

This operation is often carried out using heat in ovens.
